Saracens Herts League Division Six
Hitchin 2nds 132-10 Hatfield Crusaders 133-7
DEBUTANT Wasiuddin Mohammad was the hero for Hatfield Crusaders as his five-wicket haul guided them to victory over Hitchin 2nds on Saturday.
Mohammad finished with 5-30 in 14 overs on his league debut for the club.
Coupled with a fine half-century by Jigar Mehta, he guided Crusaders to their fourth consecutive win, which takes them to second position in Saracens Herts Division Six.
Crusaders won the toss and skipper Usman Shaikh put the opposition in.
The decision paid off as early as the first ball of the second over when Preet Singh had skipper Devon Woolley caught behind for a duck.
The hosts looked set for a big score at drinks in the 27th over with the total on 95-3.
Resuming after the break, the Hitchin batsmen succumbed to the pressure when Deepak Hasiza had Dave Gray trapped leg before.
Wasi soon found his length back and he started the demolition work when he had Burnell and Stoner lbw.
Mick Lee, who scored 82 runs, soon went and Wasi wrapped up the Hitchin innings by taking another two wickets to take his total to five. The hosts finished on 132 in 44.5 overs.
The visitors opened the batting with captain Usman Shaikh and Amit Singh.
Shaikh went for 13, giving a low catch to the keeper, and Iain Horden came and went for a duck.
That brought Adnan Khan to the crease. Amit got carried away and gave a skier at the boundary for 29 and the visitors were in a spot of bother at 44-3.
Khan went in the next over and in came Mehta looking confident.
At 97-6, Saad Butt joined Mehta and provided good support as Jigar reached 67 to tie the score in the 46th over.
He then missed a straight ball from McKeran to see his middle stump knocked over.
Wasi came in and finished off the game for the Crusaders, winning the match easily in the end by three wickets.
